Meet Our Lactation Team

At DMH Labor & Delivery, we are proud to care for families with the support of two exceptional International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs): Erin Rigoni, BSN, RN, IBCLC, C-EFM, and Heather Smith, BA, CBS, IBCLC.

IBCLCs are highly trained healthcare professionals who specialize in breastfeeding and lactation care. Earning the IBCLC credential requires more than 95 hours of lactation-specific education, thousands of hours of hands-on clinical experience, collegiate health science coursework and successful completion of a rigorous international board examination. It is the highest credential in lactation care and reflects both advanced knowledge and a deep commitment to supporting families through every stage of their feeding journey.

Erin and Heather provide compassionate, evidence-based support to help families meet their feeding goals - from the very first latch after birth to working through challenges and building long-term confidence. Their dedication makes a meaningful difference for parents and babies across our community.

Together, they:

  • Provide inpatient lactation support for newly delivered mothers
  • Teach monthly childbirth and breastfeeding classes
  • Lead The Milk Bar infant feeding support group, which meets every Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Albany Room at DMH
  • Offer free one-on-one outpatient lactation consultations to anyone in the community needing support after delivery

We are grateful for Erin and Heather’s expertise, compassion, and heart as they continue to promote, protect and support breastfeeding in Decatur, Morgan County and beyond.
